About the Collection:

The “Forever Kippee” Collection is in loving memory of Kippee, my charismatic Rhode Island Red Hen, whom passed on November 3, 2019.

Kippee's story was special. She was someone's "Easter Hen"—hatched on Easter in 2017 as a novelty—and then quickly discarded in the park. She was eventually brought to Wild Bird Fund, the only rehabilitation center for injured or abandoned birds and small mammals in NYC. That's how I found her—or really, how Kippee found me.

A personable hen from the start, Kippee had imprinted on humans, and likely believed herself to be more human than hen. I took her home as a foster, but in the process, found a friend.

I miss her every day. Nothing will ever replace that. But I do hope her legacy lives on through the feelings she imparted on others. In honor of her, I've created this special collection of products.

Kippee was very good at giving back to the community. Her story helped raise funds for a chicken coop at the senior citizen service center in our area; she participated in many garden volunteer days; and she paid visits to school children and senior citizens alike, brightening up their day. She would also bring many smiles to passersby faces upon seeing her riding on my shoulder throughout Brooklyn—a random sight in the city no doubt!

As part of that good will, for every 100 products sold in this collection, $100 will be donated to the Wild Bird Fund in her honor to help future birds like Kippee. And the remainder of any profits will go towards funding more great botanical content on Plant One On Me.

Kippee loved living indoors, though I encouraged her to go outside and play often. One thing she really liked to do was eat my plants. Calathea, Maranta, and Maidenhair ferns were her favorite.
