The day I went butt-naked and covered myself in honeybees.

Over ten years ago, thousands of commercial migratory beekeepers throughout the world began reporting the worst honeybee die-off in history. More than 30 million bees (Apis mellifera L.) in the United States mysteriously died. Several years later, the die off was only worsening and I felt it was time to make a statement.

Si Como No Butterfly Garden, Manuel Antonio, Costa Rica

I've only been to a half dozen or so butterfly gardens in my life, but clearly one of the best is the one I went to in Manuel Antonio, which gets mad props for its butterfly collection as well as the therapeutic arrangement of its garden for people to enjoy a relaxing moment.

Day and night nature walks, Uvita, Costa Rica

Whilst in Costa Rica, I took a short plant walk tour with botanist Sarah Wu and then skipped next door to Rancho de la Merced to do a night tour. What you see during the evening hours compared to the day, will astound you!

Spirogyra Butterfly Exhibit, Costa Rica

San Jose, Costa Rica can be a stressful city, but not too far from the city center, tucked away in a little alcove is a small but mighty butterfly garden that will give you some peace of mind.

Purple sweet potato and parsley root soup

This is quite possibly one of the most decadent, fit-for-a-king or -queen soups. The finish is incredibly silky and the natural sweetness from the parsley root and purple sweet potato makes your taste buds think they’re already on dessert!

Centro Agronómico Tropical de Investigación y Enseñanza

At first glance, CATIE is more like a university campus, but they are, in fact, an international institute for agricultural development and biological conservation in Central America and the Caribbean with an incredible outdoor botanical garden.
